Films for Good: We think they like us

From a pool of over 70 films, eight filmmaker teams attended our Films for Good workshop, 23 – 25 July, in Islington, London. Designed by Channel 4 BRITDOC and Working Films UK, the workshop took first steps in developing effective strategic community and audience engagement campaigns for the films, supported by non-traditional distribution strategies. Sarah Mosses, of our team in London, developed some early plans for each film’s campaign with a suggested range of potential partners – including leading NGOs and some corporate brands. We had a mixture of projects from development stage, right through to completion and we emphasized peer learning and active group discussion.

Ithaca College Launches "Media for Social Change" Initiative

Led by Roy H. Park School of Communications dean Diane Gayeski and Ithaca College alum Andy Orgel ’74, the CEO of One Degree Media and Entertainment Company and a co-founder of the A&E and MTV networks, the program is in keeping with the college’s sustainability endeavors as well as efforts to develop an integrative curriculum.

On Thursday, April 22 — the 40th anniversary of Earth Day — “Soul of Money” author Lynne Twist will give a free public presentation on “Media for Social Change” at 7 p.m. in Park Hall Auditorium. The program is intended to serve as a wake-up call about the urgency of the current global situation relating to environmental sustainability and social responsibility and the role of the media to communicate key messages and opportunities to global citizens.

Welcome to the Aware Guide!

Welcome to the Aware Guide! The Aware Guide was created to help you find the media that can inform and entertain you while inspiring you to make changes in your life for yourself, your community and the planet.

We call this Transformational Media -  media that looks to inspire the movement of society towards ideals, values and practices that create a better world for everyone.   It focuses on solutions, not problems for issues such as:   CONSCIOUSNESS      ENVIRONMENT       ENERGY      HEALTH     INSPIRATION       SOCIAL ISSUES

The Power of Media to Transform

It wasn’t always the case that Hollywood, the media capital of the world, could be expected to embrace a day-long symposium on the power of arts and media to transform. When I broke into the industry in 1985, power was held by the major studios and four broadcast and cable outlets with a fifth emerging on the horizon. Most of the time, transformation only mattered in terms of ratings and dollars and cents.

Support for "Crude" Filmmaker

The International Documentary Association and supporting filmmakers Michael Moore, D.A. Pennebaker, Barbara Kopple, Davis Guggenheim, Louie Psihoyos, Morgan Spurlock and many more, have banded together to create an open letter of support for filmmaker Joe Berlinger. A New York federal court has recently ruled that Berlinger must hand over 600 hours of raw footage from his documentary
