Waiting for Superman Makes Impact

President Obama is scheduled to meet Monday with Davis Guggenheim, the director of the new documentary "Waiting for Superman," and the five students featured in the film.

The president called the film "heartbreaking" for its portrayal of real-life students whose best chances for a good education are charter school lotteries.  The film is quite controversial among progressives and labor unions,

finding fault as it does with teachers' unions for many of the failures of the American public school educational system. Nonetheless, at a forum after a recent screening of the film in Washington, D.C., Education Secretary Arne Duncan called the film's release "a Rosa Parks moment," in that he hoped it would provoke discussion and awareness about a serious national issue.

The students received a special invitation from the president himself.
