Thankful for Media That Matters

I am really grateful for all the transformational media being produced, and for the people like you who are interested in it. The biggest news last week was the broadcast of Harmony on NBC as part of their "Green is Universal" week. The film itself is noteworthy for being the first movie I have seen featuring a world leader talking about the need to live in harmony with nature (hence the name). It also ties together how we must address the environmental and economic needs of all stakeholders and recognize the sacredness of the earth. It is also noteworthy that…

Leaves Are Falling, but Transformational Media Is Rising

Conferences are winding down for the year, but there is still a great deal of activity with film festivals and the premieres of several new films.  This has been a particularly busy time in the San Francisco Bay area with Green Festival (which included the SF premiere of Ghetto Physics), screenings of 2012:Time for Change and the Global Summit (videos of some of the stimulating presentations coming soon!), and the Napa Valley Film Festival taking place this weekend (which features "Lifted" and "I AM"). But there were events all around the country, such as the Colorado Environmental Film Festival and…

Tricks and Treats in Media this week

This was a busy week with Halloween, the mid-term elections, Diwali all contributing important messages. It was interesting trying to find good "get out and vote" videos without a particular agenda, or that apply on a national level.  My personal experience with this election as I spent several days canvassing to get voters out, was very informative to observe people's reactions - from "go away I am not going to vote or even talk about it", to the excitement of a new citizen being able to exercise their right to vote for the first time and wanting to know everything…

Bring Dirty Business, produced by the Center for Investigative Reporting, to your community to explore these issues. Host a house party or community screening.

Good Pitch Up Close

We’ve had a great year of Good Pitches so far! From DC to the UK and most recently San Francisco, we’ve been covering ground and helping generate exciting partnerships among filmmakers, NGOs, funders and brands. Are you wondering what happens at these pitches? Fear not! Rachel Seifert (of the film Not on the Label) gives insight on what it’s like to be up on the pitcher’s mound. Last week I pitched at the BritDoc Good Pitch –my first ever pitching session! I was pretty nervous. Despite having interviewed a number of Presidents, trekked through the jungle with the Colombian army,…
