Transformational Media 2010 Year in Review

The first few months of the AwareGuide's existence has been quite exciting.  The field of transformational media has really started to take off!  The year started out strong with Avatar breaking box office records and bringing important messages to millions, starting important discussions.  It was quickly followed by The Cove winning the Academy Award for Best Documentary.  Other highlights for the year 2010 include:

Waste Land winning the IDA Award for Best Documentary and making the final list for Academy Award consideration.

New films introduced this in film festivals and screenings (sign up for our newsletter to follow their screenings and releases) include:

- I AM by Tom Shadyac
- Bhutto
- Gasland (Academy Award nominee)
- Inside Job (Academy Award nominee)
- Fresh
- Waiting for Superman (Academy Award nominee)
- 2012:Time for Change
- Countdown to Zero
- Tapestries of Hope

The movie Harmony on NBC, illustrating the Prince of Wales dedication to environmental efforts and sustainable farming was a milestone in bringing the message to a prime-time audience.  Television premieres of films included: No Impact Man, The Cove, The Most Dangerous Man in America and many others.

Environmental film festivals grew considerably, as did the number of film festivals including social action films.  These included:
-    United Nations Association Film Festival
-    Sausalito Film Festival
-    International Buddhist Film Festival
-    Bioneers Moving Images Festival
-    American Renewable Energy Day Film Festival
